ABUJA - The Independent National Electoral Commission will on Tuesday hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference as preparations for the 2027 general elections enter the final 100-day countdown.
The engagement, scheduled for 10am at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, is expected to provide Nigerians and key stakeholders with an update on the commission’s level of preparedness for the elections.
According to INEC, its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, will address the gathering alongside other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
The commission said discussions would focus on critical areas of the election preparations, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being adopted to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
INEC said the stakeholders’ meeting was also aimed at deepening collaboration with institutions and groups whose roles are considered important to the conduct and security of the elections.
It stated that the engagement underscored its commitment to transparency, proactive communication and collaboration with key actors within the electoral system.
Expected participants include leaders of political parties, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups.
Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to attend the meeting.
The development comes as the electoral commission enters a crucial stage of preparations for the 2027 polls, with logistical, administrative and technological arrangements expected to be completed ahead of the elections.
INEC, however, did not indicate whether any changes to the existing electoral timetable would be announced during the engagement.
The commission said the proceedings would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms to enable wider public participation.
Attendance at the venue will be by invitation, while accredited journalists and other invited guests will be required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
