The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 11 people lost their lives in a fatal road accident along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway on Saturday evening.

The Franklin Agbakoba, Sector Commander of FRSC in Enugu State, said the crash occurred at about 6:46 p.m. near the FRSC Ozalla Unit Command. The accident involved a commercial Toyota Coaster bus and an articulated Mercedes-Benz trailer.

According to Agbakoba, 36 persons were involved in the collision, comprising 27 males and nine females. Eleven victims—10 males and one female—were confirmed dead, while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

He said the injured victims were taken to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) for medical treatment, while the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

Agbakoba added that FRSC personnel promptly cleared the wreckage and restored free flow of traffic on the affected section of the expressway. Preliminary investigations, he noted, indicate route traffic violation and loss of control as the likely causes of the crash.

He commended officers and marshals of the FRSC Ozalla Unit Command for their swift rescue efforts and assured that further details would be made public as investigations continue.
