A prominent opposition figure and media entrepreneur, Dele Momodu, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to adopt a deliberate, strategy-driven approach if it intends to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a television interview, Momodu emphasised that defeating a sitting president like Tinubu would require more than mass appeal, noting that elections are won through careful planning, strong political structures, and experience.

He pointed out that popularity alone is insufficient, describing Tinubu as a formidable opponent who cannot be unseated without a coordinated and technically sound strategy.

Reflecting on past elections, Momodu highlighted the importance of nationwide structures, financial strength, and effective monitoring systems, adding that factors such as ethnicity, religion, and money continue to significantly influence electoral outcomes in Nigeria.

He also called for urgent unity within the opposition, warning that time is limited to build a strong coalition capable of competing effectively in 2027.

On internal party dynamics, Momodu maintained that no single individual should dominate the ADC, stressing that the party must choose its candidate based on collective strategy rather than personal control. He noted that experienced politicians like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi remain viable contenders with valuable electoral experience.

Addressing the issue of zoning, he dismissed claims of a binding North-South power rotation, describing it as a misconception not backed by the constitution.

Momodu further advised the ADC to concentrate its efforts on northern Nigeria, citing growing dissatisfaction within the ruling party as a strategic opening for the opposition.

He concluded by urging opposition leaders to embrace compromise and avoid internal divisions, stressing that while they may not match Tinubu in resources or structure, a well-executed strategy could make the difference.
