The Enugu State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled a local firearms fabrication workshop in Amofia-Agu Affa, Udi Local Government Area.

Command spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the raid followed the arrest and confession of one Ekene Okafor—an alleged member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity—who had earlier been arrested for conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.

According to Ndukwe, the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Command acted on credible intelligence and stormed the workshop around 4:00 p.m. on June 30. The suspect led officers to the location, where his locally-made cut-to-size firearm was being repaired. The workshop's owner reportedly fled upon sighting the operatives.

Items recovered from the scene included:

  • One locally-made cut-to-size single-barrel gun
  • Two English-made double-barrel guns
  • Eight single-barrel guns
  • Two live cartridges and eight expended ones
  • Three generator sets
  • Various tools used in firearm repairs
  • Other incriminating exhibits

Ndukwe added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing workshop owner. Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus, commended the officers for the successful operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling illegal arms manufacturing and related crimes.

The police urged residents to stay alert, obey the law, and share any useful information that could aid in crime prevention.
