The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the nomination of Dr. Kingsley Tochi Udeh (SAN), the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Enugu State, as a federal minister.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier forwarded Udeh’s name to the Senate for confirmation, following the resignation of Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who stepped down last month amid controversy over his academic credentials.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s request during Tuesday’s plenary and referred it to the Committee of the Whole for screening. At Thursday’s sitting, Udeh appeared before the lawmakers after receiving the necessary security clearance.
During the brief session, Udeh responded to a few questions before being asked to take a bow and leave, a gesture reserved for distinguished nominees. The Senate thereafter confirmed his appointment by voice vote.
With his confirmation, Enugu State once again has representation in the Federal Executive Council.
