The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved new caretaker committees for its Enugu, Delta and Rivers State chapters. The decision, taken on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), is in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the party’s 2025 amended constitution.

A statement issued by the National Organizing Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, explained that the committees will manage party affairs in their respective states for a maximum of 90 days or until new executives are elected.

He noted that members of the committees are expected to discharge their duties in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), the Electoral Act 2022 and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The move follows the recent wave of defections by governors of the affected states to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The latest is Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who received his APC membership card—numbered 001—on Friday from the state chairman, Tony Okocha, officially confirming him as the party's new leader in the state.
