Kano — The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two women for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Goron Dutse, Kano State.

The suspects, Maryam Ali (19) and Hauwa Musa (20), both residents of Kano State, were apprehended during routine security screening while attempting to gain access to the custodial facility.

Confirming the arrest, the Command’s spokesperson, Mr. Musbahu Lawan, said the women were found in possession of suspected illicit substances believed to have been intended for inmates serving various jail terms at the centre.

He disclosed that the incident occurred on December 21, 2025, as part of the command’s sustained efforts to prevent the entry of prohibited items into correctional facilities.

According to Lawan, the action constitutes a serious violation of Nigerian Correctional Service regulations and is punishable under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He added that the suspects have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The spokesperson reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward illegal activities within and around custodial centres and urged the public to strictly adhere to visitation guidelines.

He warned that any breach of the rules would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
