Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has officially joined the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Davido’s decision follows the recent defection of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, where he has indicated his intention to seek re-election.
The music star announced his move on Tuesday through his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing plans to travel to Osogbo to obtain his Accord Party membership card.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ Imole House, Osogbo, tomorrow… see you soon ACCORDINGLY,” Davido wrote.
Governor Adeleke had earlier disclosed that he formally joined the Accord Party on November 6 after extensive consultations with political stakeholders. He attributed his departure from the PDP to unresolved leadership crises at the party’s national level.
According to the governor, the Accord Party’s welfare-driven ideology aligns with the vision and priorities of his administration. He also confirmed that he had submitted his resignation letter to PDP officials in his ward in Ede North Local Government Area before making the public announcement.
Davido had previously hinted at his support for his uncle’s political move by reposting news of the governor’s resignation with the caption, “Jeje…”.
The latest development is expected to significantly influence Osun State’s political dynamics as political parties begin early maneuvers ahead of the 2026 governorship contest.
