Tensions have risen in Awka, the Anambra State capital, after two men, including a prominent mobile advertiser and event MC, Isaac Nwosu, alias Aiza, and another unnamed individual, were killed separately in what the Police described as shooting attacks carried out by unknown assailants on Sunday, August 30, 2026. The heavily bulleted remains of Nwosu, in a Toyota Hilux vehicle, were reportedly discovered on one street in Awka while the other victim with a gunshot wound to the head was also discovered on the road. The victims are suspected to have been either followed by gunmen in tinted vehicle from their homes to their place of death or run into ambush as they were moving around Awka in the early hours or late night hours of Saturday. The exact cause and motive for killing both is unknown but raises serious concern about the security in Awka. 

Isaac Nwosu who was usually on mobile advertisement, mobile sound system for events, master of ceremony (MC) and a mobile disc jokey also sometimes hosted public service on the radio is believed to have previously survived a number of kill plots against him. 

Nwosu once narrowly escaped assassination attempt and there was previously an incident wherein he got involved in a bad accident during public address function with his vehicle.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has in a press statement condemn in strong terms the dastardly killings and vowed that manhunt will be launch on the killers of both Isaac Nwosu and the unknown man. A statement by the police Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said that based on preliminary investigations and eye witness account, investigation revealed that the two separate killing incidents involved unknown hoodlums who operate in a tinted glass 4-door Toyota Corolla Silver in colour with unknown Registration Number. The Police boss revealed that upon information of the killing received via distress call that one Isaac Nwosu, male, and other dead person were shot dead at Capital City Road, Amaenyi and also S.M Okeke Street, Amaikwo, all within Awka, that police patrol teams were dispatched and discovered the said two male bodies at respective locations. 

They were taken to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka where they were both confirmed dead by doctor on duty. 

Police said recovered from crime scenes included N7,550 cash, one Moniepoint ATM card, and one pair of slippers belonging to the second deceased. SP Ikenga noted that the identity of second deceased is still unknown but efforts is on to identify him, and assured that prompt action will be taken by the command on both cases. He urged members of the public with useful information to visit the nearest police station, stressing that any information brought forth to the command, shall be treated with absolute confidentiality. 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama ordered the immediate transfer of the case and all ongoing investigation to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Awka for a discreet and thorough investigation. The CP also assured of the command’s renewed commitment and synergy with other security agencies to enhance robust and responsive security posture in the state capital and all over the state.
