Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, over multiple criminal allegations.

Portable is facing a nine-count charge bordering on assault, theft, causing bodily harm and resisting arrest. The charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State on New Year’s Day.

According to the charge sheet, the singer is accused of attacking his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, alongside several individuals, including police officers who were said to be carrying out their official duties. Among the officers allegedly assaulted is a female inspector identified as Ogungbe Olayemi.

Other alleged victims listed in the case include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi and Ebuka Odah. Portable is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, reportedly belonging to Ileyemi Damilola.

During the proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses. Ashabi, however, was not present in court.

The presiding judge declined to grant the defendant bail, citing the absence of the police officer allegedly assaulted during the incident. Portable was subsequently remanded in custody pending further hearing, with the case adjourned until January 19.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that it has launched an investigation into a viral video purportedly showing the singer being assaulted while in police custody.
