Red Cross Distributes Relief Supplies to Affected Families
In a show of solidarity, the governments of Borno and Taraba states have extended financial aid to victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State, donating a combined total of N350 million.
Borno State contributed N300 million, while the delegation from Taraba gave N50 million. In addition, the Nigerian Red Cross has stepped in with essential non-food relief materials.
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State made the announcement during a condolence visit to Niger State Governor Umar Bago in Minna. He stated that the donation aims to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts led by the Bago administration.
Zulum emphasized the importance of joint efforts by sub-national governments to combat the growing impacts of climate change. He also urged the Federal Government to develop a strong framework to prevent and manage future natural disasters.
In response, Governor Bago described the donation as both timely and deeply appreciated, praising Zulum's dedication, proactive leadership, and compassion.

According to Bologi Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bago, the Taraba delegation—led by Senator Manu Haruna—presented their state’s donation and expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of Taraba’s government and people. Senator Haruna emphasized their solidarity with the victims and affected communities.
Governor Bago thanked the delegation for their generosity and support.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Red Cross, through its Head of Communications, Chima Nwankwo, confirmed that it had distributed vital relief items to 100 affected households. These supplies include camp beds, sleeping mats, blankets, mobile taps, and water purification tablets.
Each family received plastic buckets and jerry cans for water storage, Aquatabs for purification, and shelter kits with tools to help build temporary accommodations.
The Red Cross reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with both the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to monitor the situation and coordinate future relief efforts.
