Abuja - Senator Seriake Dickson and the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, have moved to douse tensions within the party following recent disagreements involving some of Obi's supporters.

Dickson disclosed on Thursday that Obi, accompanied by senior party leaders, paid him a visit for a closed-door meeting that lasted nearly three hours, during which key issues affecting the party were discussed and resolved.

The meeting followed concerns raised by the former Bayelsa State governor over what he described as attacks from some supporters of the NDC presidential candidate despite their shared political objectives.

Speaking after the meeting, Dickson described Obi as a partner in the "New Nigerian Project" and said the discussions centered on party affairs and recent developments that had generated concern among stakeholders.

"I received my brother, colleague and partner in the New Nigerian Project, His Excellency Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, together with distinguished leaders of our party. We held a closed-door meeting and reviewed the activities of the party as well as recent issues that had become a source of concern," Dickson said.

According to the senator representing Bayelsa West, all contentious matters were thoroughly discussed and amicably resolved.

He reaffirmed that both he and Obi remain committed to strengthening the party and positioning it for electoral success in future contests.

"We have always been on the same page regarding the bigger picture, which is winning elections for all candidates of our party and rescuing Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC-led government," he stated.

Dickson acknowledged that disagreements are inevitable in any political movement but noted that party leaders had agreed on mechanisms for resolving differences constructively.

He also appealed to party members and supporters to refrain from internal attacks and focus on the collective mission of building a stronger political platform.

"I want to use this opportunity to call on all members of our party to stop the bickering and name-calling and focus on the bigger picture," he said.

The senator further assured party faithful that consultations among Obi, himself and other stakeholders would continue to strengthen unity, address concerns and maintain cohesion within the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political observers view the meeting as a significant step toward consolidating the party's internal structure as preparations gradually intensify for the next electoral cycle.
