...Signals Deepening Grassroots Mobilisation Ahead of 2027

Enugu witnessed a strategic consolidation of grassroots political engagement on Saturday, March 14, 2026, as the Grassroots Network for Peter Ndubuisi Mbah (GNPM) formally unveiled its statewide structure in a well-attended ceremony marked by strong organisation, clear messaging, and a shared sense of purpose.

The event brought together key coordinators from across all levels of the network, alongside government representatives and stakeholders, underscoring the growing momentum behind Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration and the expanding reach of structured grassroots mobilisation across the state.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Cajetan Ali, described the unveiling as more than a ceremonial inauguration, noting that it represents a deliberate and strategic commitment to deepening engagement between governance and the people.

According to him, the network has been carefully designed to move beyond conventional political support systems by building a functional structure that operates from the state level down to senatorial zones, local governments, wards, campuses, and polling units.

“This is not just about visibility; it is about penetration and understanding. We are building a system that ensures governance is not only seen but clearly understood at the grassroots,” Ali stated.

He emphasised that the strength of the network lies in its structure and reach, noting that its presence across communities reflects a conscious effort to institutionalise grassroots participation.

The scale of coordination within the network was evident in the composition of attendees, which included zonal coordinators from the three senatorial districts, all 17 local government coordinators, as well as ward, campus, and neighbourhood coordinators drawn from across Enugu State.

Their presence, Ali noted, was a practical demonstration that the “grassroots” identity of the movement is not symbolic, but operational and active.

A major highlight of the event was a series of detailed presentations showcasing the impact of the Mbah administration across critical sectors. Through data-backed and visual storytelling, participants were taken through measurable progress in security, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic development.

The presentations reinforced a central message, that governance in Enugu State is no longer defined by projections, but by visible and verifiable outcomes.

Representing the Governor, the Special Adviser on Political Matters, Mr. Frank Anioma, commended the structure and intent of the network, describing it as a vital bridge between government policies and public understanding.

He highlighted key reforms and initiatives of the administration, including the emergence of Enugu Air as an economic driver, the revitalisation of dormant industries, and the Smart Green Schools project, which he described as a forward-looking investment in human capital development.

“What we are seeing is a government that is not only delivering results but is intentional about ensuring that those results are understood by the people. This network plays a critical role in that process,” Anioma said.

Also speaking during the interactive session, the Senior Special Assistant on Security, Mr. Vincent Onyeabor, provided insight into the state’s evolving security architecture, emphasising a proactive and technology-driven approach.

He pointed to the Enugu State Command and Control Center as a central intelligence system and highlighted the Swift Response App as a tool for citizen participation in security management.

“Security is no longer reactive. What we have built is a coordinated system where intelligence, technology, and citizen engagement work together to ensure rapid and effective response,” Onyeabor noted.

The event also recorded the presence of key members of the administration, including the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Franklin Ogbonna, and the Enugu State Liaison Officer to the South East Development Commission, Hon. Edeani M. Edeani, further reflecting strong institutional support for the initiative.

Speakers at the event consistently emphasised the core philosophy driving the Grassroots Network, that governance must be actively communicated and not assumed.

They noted that in an era of rapid information flow and misinformation, the role of structured grassroots engagement has become essential in bridging the gap between policy execution and public perception.

The network, they explained, is positioned not merely as a support group but as a translation platform, one that connects government initiatives to lived realities within communities, ensuring that development narratives are communicated with clarity and accuracy.

Beyond political mobilisation, the network also outlined plans to roll out community-focused initiatives, including health outreaches, educational programmes, empowerment drives, and technology engagement projects tailored to local needs.

These initiatives, according to organisers, are aimed at reinforcing the impact of governance while fostering deeper community participation.

While the ceremony concluded, the scale, organisation, and clarity of purpose demonstrated by the Grassroots Network for Peter Ndubuisi Mbah underscored its growing relevance within the state’s political landscape.

The unveiling not only highlighted a well-structured movement but also signalled a coordinated effort to sustain and expand grassroots engagement in support of ongoing development.

With 2027 on the horizon, the message from the event was clear, the movement is not merely preparing for an election, but building a sustained framework for engagement anchored on performance, structure, and grassroots connection.
