Renowned Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has officially received her Guinness World Record (GWR) plaque for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.
The celebrated chef unveiled the plaque on Thursday, November 6, 2025, sharing photos on her Instagram page where she appeared in her signature white chef attire. This marks her second Guinness World Record, following her viral 2023 cook-a-thon that earned global acclaim.
“Two records. Two plaques. One story of faith, fire, and history. Twice, God showed up for me. Twice, we made history for Nigeria,” Hilda wrote on Instagram, expressing gratitude and pride in her achievement.
The record was confirmed by Guinness World Records in September, recognizing her preparation of 8,780 kilograms of jollof rice during the Gino World Jollof Festival held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos. The eight-hour culinary marathon drew thousands of attendees, including celebrities, influencers, and food enthusiasts.
Working with Gino Nigeria, Hilda cooked with over 4,000 kilograms of basmati rice, 500 cartons of tomato concentrate, 750 kilograms of oil, and 600 kilograms of onions in a massive six-metre-wide steel pot. The meal, after verification, was distributed to over 20,000 people present at the event.
Despite a brief scare when the pot’s cover slipped during weighing, the chef and her team stabilized it successfully, completing what Guinness described as a “remarkable feat of precision, endurance, and teamwork.”
Guinness World Records congratulated her under her Instagram post, writing, “Fantastic photos! Congratulations again, Hilda.”
Reflecting on the accomplishment, Hilda said,
“This record belongs to the people of Nigeria. It’s more than cooking — it’s about feeding the nation and showcasing our culture to the world.”
With this, Hilda Baci cements her place as a two-time world record holder, inspiring millions with her blend of culinary artistry, passion, and national pride.
