Globally acclaimed Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, have suffered the loss of one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi.

The sad development was confirmed in a statement issued by Omawumi Ogbe, which disclosed that the child passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, following a brief illness. He was 21 months old.

The statement expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that the family is devastated and has requested privacy during this period of mourning.

“We ask for grace and prayers as they grieve in private. No further statements will be made,” the statement added, while also appealing to the public and the media to respect the family’s wish for seclusion at this difficult time.
